B. Delano “Del” DeBaryshe MBA ’73 was born July 18, 1929, in New York City. He attended NYC schools, then received a B.S. from Union College in Schenectady, New York, in 1951. Del spent 1954 through 1956 as a draftee in the Army. Afterward, he attended graduate studies at McGill University and Arizona State University, and earned an MBA at SCU. He worked for 44 years in ordnance design, engineering physics, and systems optimization with the U.S. National Bureau of Standards, Diamond Fuze Labs of the Army, General Electric Co., Motorola Research Labs, AiResearch Mfg. Co. of Arizona, AVCO Corporation, Ordnance Division of Northrop Space Labs, Lockheed Missiles and Space Laboratories, and the FAA Technical Center in New Jersey. While at Northrop Space Labs in Huntsville, Alabama, Del met Betty Wade Whirley, an executive secretary with two young daughters. They Married Dec. 17, 1966, in Palos Verdes Peninsula, California. When they retired in 1995, they moved to St. Augustine. In 2005 they moved to Marietta, Georgia. When Betty died on March 12, 2010, in Marietta, Del returned to St. Augustine in December 2010. He was a master mason and a past exalted ruler in the BPO Elks. He died on Jan. 20, 2019, at his residence. He was 89 years old. Del Del is survived by his sister, Evelyn, two nieces, two nephews, two grand-nephews, and one grand-niece. He is also survived by his step-daughter and son-in-law Cheri and Charles Padgett, and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
