Aurelius "Reo" Boykin Miles J.D. ’52, age 99, of Chicago Il., passed away Monday May 27, 2013. Born on February 14, 1914 to Dr. John I. and Sally Belle Miles (deceased), Reo was the second of four children: John and Utropius (both deceased) and Alwilda "Sister" Miles. Captain Miles was a much decorated World War ll hero losing his leg while in combat on the Italian front. He received many decorations including the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star. Reo attended Stanford University and was the first African American to graduate from Santa Clara Law School. He persevered through enormous difficulties and loved his wife Ethel Rivers Washington Miles dearly as they raised a successful family; she preceded him in death. He had a successful career in real estate at Draper and Kramer and was known for his fun and outgoing personality. He was warm, witty, generous and determined. He was a devoted member of The Church of The Good Shepard. He was also the first black tennis player at Hyde Park High School, a celebrated member of the Prairie Tennis Club, a Founding Sponsor of the Martin Luther King Memorial, a member of the Military Retired Officers Association, Disabled American Veterans, A Troop Leader of the Boy Scouts of America, supported the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police and the Chicago Fire Department and was invited to the Inauguration of Barack Obama as the first Black President of the United States by the Democratic National Committee and the White House. He was an avid member of the Druids, the Unicorns Social Club and was an Omega Psi Phi. He is survived by his much loved son David Miles, his loving sister Alwilda Miles Davis and nieces Lisa Washington and Sandra Paris.
