1949

It was a busy life, for sure. Somehow along the way, Alessandro Baccari ’49 produced broadcast programs including an award-winning show hosted by Mike Wallace, became Associate Dean of the Business College at San Francisco State University, established sixteen regional history museums in Northern California, won two Fulbright awards for his photography, served as president of the Fisherman’s Wharf Merchants Association, was knighted by the Italian government for his book The Chronicles of the Italian Cathedral of the West, A History of the Sts. Peter and Paul Church in San Francisco’s North Beach, and received the Holy See’s highest honor from Pope John Paul II for his charitable work, including efforts to support immigrants and refugees. Alessandro also served as one of San Francisco’s goodwill ambassadors as he traveled the world. At the age of 92, Alessandro took his rest and died on April 30, 2021.
