Albert Penna ’63 was born on July 26, 1937, in Palo Alto. He graduated from Serra High School of San Mateo before serving a two-year enlistment in the Army. He earned a business degree from SCU, and after working for 12 years for GSA in San Francisco, he resigned and opened Paradise Sporting Goods in 1974 with his brother, Larry. Eleven years later, he returned to government work with the Bureau of Reclamation in Willows, California, where he retired in 2006 after 32 years of service to the federal government. Albert and Myrna were married in 1983 and raised two children, Paul and Christopher, in Paradise, where he spent his remaining years. Al was passionate about the outdoors, his family, and his Catholic faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an active member of St. Thomas More Church, organizing the Wednesday hot lunch program and serving in the Knights of Columbus and Legion of Mary. At age 80, he died on March 28, 2018, at Enloe Hospital from complications during a difficult recovery from heart surgery. Albert is survived by two sons, Paul and Christopher, and wife Myrna.
