2016

Alana Hinkston ’16 was presented the Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J. Award, given to a graduating senior who exemplifies the ideals of Jesuit education, especially being a "whole person of solidarity in the real world" and having the courage and faith to build a more just and humane world. Alana Hinkston is graduating with a double major in Marketing and Communication and a minor in Retail Studies with a 3.789 GPA. Alana is a name probably all students recognize from the weekly email she sends, “This Week at SCU,” for Associate Student Government as Vice President of Public Relations.  In addition to keeping the student body up to date on what is happening on campus, Alana lists being a Neighborhood Representative in the University Villas, an Orientation Leader, mentor for the LOOP Mentoring Program, planner for the Love Jones open mic night, and co-founder of the Unity 4 movement amongst her involvement here at Santa Clara. Her most rewarding moments at SCU have been seeing younger students get involved on campus. Her words of wisdom: "Your biggest enemy is yourself. The sky is the limit, and how are you going to get there?" In July, she will be moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota to work at the Target headquarters as a Marketing Associate, where she interned for 10 weeks last summer. She hopes to get her MBA in the near future.
