SCU tops U.S. News & World Reports Best College Rankings

It feels good to be no. 1.

After years of coming in second, Santa Clara University is the top regional university in the western United States.

That's according to the 2019 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.

SCU's no. 1 rank in the west for veterans helped push the university to the top spot. The report also notes Santa Clara's small class size, nearly half have fewer than 20 students.

Santa Clara also earned points for its ability to attract top scholars. About 87 percent of first-year students are from the top quarter of their high school class. University peers rank it sixth in commitment to undergraduate education and improved its general assessment score.

All told, the university scored a perfect 100 out of 100 possible points in the rankings.

“It is extremely gratifying to see Santa Clara University recognized for a commitment to excellence at all levels,” said University President Michael E. Engh, S.J. “Our students, faculty, and staff are highly dedicated individuals, all with a shared tenacity for thriving. As we celebrate this accolade, we remain diligent in graduating citizens of the world—those intent on measuring their own success by their ability to help others succeed."
