Gold and bronze medals are what Marni Murez ’20 is bringing with her to California skies. She joins the women’s golf team as an incoming sophomore after spending her first year of school at Boston College. This summer she was invited as part of Team USA to the Maccabiah Games, an international Jewish and Israeli sporting event.

Founded in 1932 and held every four years, the Maccabiah Games are now the third largest sporting event in the world, drawing athletes of Jewish and Israeli descent from around the globe, and supervised by the International Olympic Committee.

“Being there, I felt so much pride to be an American, a Jewish American,” Murez says. “It was an incredible feeling.” She garnered an individual bronze; as part of Team USA, she gained a gold. Golf is typically a solitary sport. But Murez had never played a course internationally. She relied on teammates to help her navigate Israel’s only golf course.
