SCU women’s basketball is under new leadership.

The résumé of new women’s basketball coach Bill Carr includes a win over UConn in the NCAA Tournament and a national championship. Some explanation is in order. The victory was not against UConn’s women’s team, which has 10 national titles since 2000. Rather, Carr was an assistant for the men’s team at San Diego in 2008, when the 13th-seeded Toreros upset the Huskies in the first round. For the last five years Carr coached the men’s team at Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego, winning a National Christian College Athletic Association championship in 2012. In 11 seasons, Carr has a record of 202–132. This will be his first time coaching women, but he has an experienced staff composed of Michael Floyd, Kristin Iwanaga, and former West Coast Conference player of the year Taelor Karr. What’s next? “Our goal at Santa Clara is to play for championships,” Carr said.
