Phyllis Hamilton J.D. ’76 named Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Named Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Phyllis Hamilton J.D. ’76 is the first African American woman to lead the court. She’s served as administrative judge for a federal agency and as magistrate judge and district judge of this court since 2000, most recent in the Oakland division. Hamilton also holds an honorary degree from SCU, and she delivered the commencement address to law students in 2008.
